Interface

Each proficiency has its own window containing its buttons and outputs. This way you can arrange the interface to suit your style - you can have them whereever you like and/or hide them.
Many proficiencies also have a keyboard shortcut to do things that are used often, but still have a button in the interface to do it, for convenience.

Here is the default keyboard layout with the keys assigned to actions:

Description of the window for each proficiency:

Labour
A contextual resource-gather button (Quarry, Mine, Log, or Scavenge) or an indicator or how long until the next unit of resource is produced. Also a display of how much is left in the resource deposit.
Keyboard control uses the context-sensitive 'use' key.

Two buttons: "Probe" (to pick up and place probes, shortcut key p), and "Dig" (to pick up and place the drill)
If digging is in progress: A status bar readout displaying how much of the current layer has been excavated, and pips to indicate which layer the drill has dug through.
Mining

A small LORE window would be at the top of the screen, displaying a loading bar, and a small bit of the LLT, arround the Unlock you are currently researching. At any time you can click on it, and it will fill the screen, and you can look around the complete LLT, and hover over the unlocks for a breif description. When the loading bar is full, a new icon apears in the window, which once clicks causes a piece of text to fill the screen, with a "continue" button at the bottom. (You have to return to the academy to do this). Once this button has been clicked, the text is replaced by a few multiple choice questions about the text, and if these are answered correctly you can then go to the LLT and select the next unlock to research, but if you fail it, the loading bar restarts, and you have nother chance to learn the unlock.
